Recognizing & Celebrating Young People &
Their Accomplishments

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION. Advertising Classified Information
Whether your support is through advertising or through submissions (articles, student recommendations, student work, photographs) the contribution you make is vital to Delmarva Youth’s mission.
SUBMISSIONS
Because we receive so many submissions per issue and space is limited, we must sometimes be selective in determining which submissions we can include. To better the chances that your submission will be published, we recommend:
>> word COUNT
Adhere to maximum word usage for each type of submission. Although we will make every attempt to include your submission even if it is longer than the maximum word count for that submission, we will most likely have to edit it for space.
>> send FAVORITES
Although there may be many news items, events, etc. that you wish to publicize, be selective with what you send us. To accomodate all of our readers, we limit the number of submissions we will take per group or individual. If a large number of submissions are sent in by your group (school, business, organization, club) we will select which to publish.
>> no FORMATTING
Please send all articles and submissions in email text format or in MICROSOFT WORD format. Please do not send flyers, PDFs, or WORD documents with embedded photos OR formatting (special fonts, indentations and bullets, graphics, etc.) Photos and graphics embedded in Word documents cannot be used.

TO SUBMIT AN ARTICLE
We prefer Microsoft Word files sent as attachments via e-mail, but will accept articles sent by mail, as well. Please send articles in simple word-processing format, free of embedded photos or any stylized word-processing layouts. All formatting must be removed before we can place your work into our page formats, and this removal slows down our layout process. Also, when you type for publication, please use only ONE SPACE after the period at the end of a sentence. If you wish to send photos with your article, send them separately, DO NOT EMBED PHOTOS IN WORD DOCUMENT (photos should be minimum of 300 dpi.)
ARTICLE ACCEPTANCE
With space available, we publish as many articles as we can. Early submission is encouraged, especially with seasonal topics. We do not accept all articles and we do not critique unsolicited manuscripts. If you would like feedback on an article you send, please email or call in advance. If your unsolicited article is used, you may not be notified in advance. Sometimes articles aren't decided on until deadline. Articles may be edited for grammar, syntax, and flow, but the “integrity” of an article will not be altered. Always include your name, address, phone, e-mail address, number of words in the article, and a two sentence bio to be used at the end of article. If you are a professional, please give your contact information.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not print articles concurrently or previously published by another local publication unless it is a news item. If your article has been submitted to another publication, please notify us.
E-Mail: Articles can be sent to delmarvayouth@hotmail.com as Word documents or basic e-mail text.
FAX: Articles can be faxed to (410) 543-8333

Writer’s Guidelines
READERSHIP
Delmarva Youth is a courtesy publication with a bi-monthly circulation of approximately 18,000 copies distributed in Maryland and Delaware. Readership is largely composed of families with children ages birth to 18 years. Many articles are targeted to parents, teachers, grandparents, and adults, but our readership includes kids as well.
WHO CAN SUBMIT AN ARTICLE
Anyone who would like to offer information, expertise, or insight in an area that would be of interest to families with children is invited to submit an article. This includes parents, teachers, coaches, grandparents, guidance counselors, medical professionals, business owners, non-profit organizations, and even kids themselves! There are innumerable topics that parents, teachers, grandparents, and family-minded individuals want to know about that concern children: health, diet, sports, activities, exercise, learning, reading, social skills, school (home, private, public,) child care, discipline, planning for children’s futures, upcoming activities and events, community resources, movie, book, product, and restaurant reviews, kid-related newswritten by local individuals to promote a sense of community among Delmarva families and to present readers with an opportunity to seek more information locally concerning a specific topic of interest.
WRITERS
If you are a writer, who simply likes to write, Delmarva Youth's readers enjoy practical information on places to go and things to do on the Eastern Shore. They enjoy humorous articles about the trials and tribulations of parenthood, as well as "how-to" articles (i.e., organizing a child's room, keeping your sanity while shopping with preschoolers, ideas for holidays and birthdays, etc.) Articles on making a working parent's life easier are of great interest, as are articles written by fathers. We prefer a warm, conversational style of writing. Because this is a regional publication, local writers are given preference, but all authors are given equal consideration based on their writing skill, style and the appropriateness of subject matter.
PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTORS
Local professionals currently practicing in the topic field of the article they submit are not compensated, other than receiving an author credit noting their credentials and the location of their practice/business.
YOUTH ARTICLES
Delmarva Youth loves to highlight successful youth. We do not compensate for articles and news stories that highlight young people, as the primary mission of the magazine is to recognize youth for their accomplishments and to encourage young readers who may choose to follow in their tracks, but anyone who wishes to submit an article highlighting a young person is encouraged to do so. See YOUTH STORIES for more information on submissions.
THEMES
Themes which repeat annually are: New Beginnings(January/February issue), Summer Camps (March/April), Family (May/June) Summer Fun & Travel (July/August), Back to School (September/October), Holiday Planning (November/ December).
