Art Institute & Gallery

>> Book As Art: May 3-10, 2008.  The Book As Art Event includes an exhibition of one-of-a-kind hand created artist's books and bookplates, and a series of events for adult and children including presentations by guest lecturers, docent-guided field trips for local school groups, a children's creative book arts workshop and a day of extended Gallery hours for the public to enjoy the exhibition.  A highlight of the week is a special presentation of the Montreal Edible Book Festival, enhanced by a delightful hors d'oeuvres buffet.  All events during the week are free and open to the public except for the "Let Them Eat Books" Buffet which is by pre-paid reservation only. This week of special events is designed to increase knowledge and appreciation of this unique art form, and inspire new artists to create their own works and collectors to purchase artists' books. Sat, May 3, 2008 - Sun, May 4, 2008 - Mon, May 5, 2008 - Tues, May 6, 2008 - Wed, May 7, 2008 - Fri, May 9, 2008 - Saturday, May 10, 2008 - Students of all ages are invited to create their own personal "hidden books" based on paper folding techniques used in artists' books. Materials will be provided and the children will be able to take home their unique treasure as a memory of this book event. "Book As Art" is sponsored part by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.

Family Partnership Coalition
SALISBURY, MD. Get Connected...come out and learn ways to make a positive difference in a child's life. The Family Partnership Coalition is hosting a family leadership training program, May 2nd thru the 4th. This program is designed to create a team of certified family leaders that can help make a difference in children's lives at home and in the community. After completion of the leadership training, all participants will be able to facilitate Active Parenting workshops for families in Wicomico County. Sherri Allen a Volunteer Family Leader explains, "My goal is to encourage parents not to feel overwhelmed and to share with them easy tools that can change behavior patterns and empower family communication." Girls Day Out - Girl Scouts

Hit the Books with Shorebirds and Sylvan
SALISBURY, MD. The Shorebirds & Sylvan Learning Center together sponsor Hit the Books, a program to encourage elementary and middle school kids to read. On four Saturday evenings in April and May, students from participating schools, will be treated to a free Shorebirds game. And participating schools parade around the infield with Sherman before the game, carrying banners that identify their schools. It's lots of fun. As guests of Sherman the Shorebird, students from participating schools in Caroline Kent, Queen Anne, Talbot, Accomack, and Northhampton Counties (3rd) and Wicomico County(17th) will be honored.

School Spirit Days at Planet Maze
OCEAN CITY, MD. Planet Maze & Laser Storm has teamed up with OC Kids Fun Pass and area schools, to give students a chance to have fun and raise money for their school. On Friday May 9 from

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University, hosts children’s activities to complement the Lower Shore Land Trust’s native plant sale 10 a.m. - noon Saturday, May 10, at the museum. Activities include decorating terra cotta pots for spring seedlings and coloring. Coloring activities are free. Pot decorating fee is $2 - $5 depending on the size of the pot. The Danselife: 25th Anniversary D'Ann Dance Spring Dance Concert
SALISBURY, MD.  Broadway comes to Salisbury in a show that appeals to audiences of all ages. Pets-4-Vets Dog Walk
SALISBURY, MD. The Salisbury Lions Club is doing a Pets-4-Vets Dog Walk on Armed Forces Day which is May 17th, 2008.  The purpose of the Dog Walk is to help the men and women coming home from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.  The government can only do so much for these individuals.  It is our American right to help these individuals.  We are raising funds to purchase  dogs for any veteran of any war but particularly from the current war.  The amount of emotional problems that they will endure are beyond our wildest dreams.  It is estimated that 40 to 50 percent of the veterans will have emotional problems.  The Salisbury Lions Club will donate the dog free of charge and the dog will also be trained at no cost to the veteran.  Please help in any way to support our project. We accept any amount of donation and would like to see you come to this event.  We are selling signs for $100.00 to be placed around the dog walk.
